SERVING FAMILIES ON THE MAINLINE
In 2025, luxury interior design is embracing a more thoughtful and enduring approach, moving away from fleeting trends and celebrating the timeless beauty of classic style. As the era of fast, disposable décor fades, more homeowners are prioritizing investments in pieces that offer lasting quality, exceptional craftsmanship, and refined sophistication. This shift is not just about aesthetics—it’s about creating spaces that feel curated, meaningful, and built to stand the test of time. Today, I’m here to explore how the pursuit of longevity and elegance is shaping luxury design, why timelessness is becoming the ultimate statement of taste, and how you can bring this enduring vision into your own home.
Over the past two decades, we’ve seen numerous design trends come and go—gallery walls, open shelving, mass-produced furnishings, shiplap, and the ubiquitous shades of gray. As a designer and homeowner, I’ve personally invested in keeping up with these trends, and I know many others who have done the same. A recurring theme I’ve noticed with my own clients in the early months of 2025 is a collective desire to move away from these transient styles. In the last two homes I worked on, both clients were in the process of removing shiplap or other trendy millwork. Their primary design goal? To create homes with a timeless, enduring aesthetic.
This widespread craving for timelessness stems from the exhaustion of constantly chasing trends. We’ve all spent considerable time, money, and energy trying to keep our homes current, only to find ourselves wanting something more permanent and refined. The desire now is for high-quality, well-crafted pieces—furnishings, fixtures, and finishes that won’t need frequent replacement. It’s about completing a design thoughtfully so we can enjoy our homes without the need for continual updates.
In my view, timeless design translates into elements that are both beautiful and breathtaking—features that captivate and inspire every time you see them. Timelessness often stands in direct contrast to trendiness, favoring classic materials and thoughtful details that maintain their appeal year after year.
Here are some key elements I’m seeing in timeless interior design:
1. Marble Countertops – Renowned for their natural elegance and rich history, marble countertops exude sophistication. Their durability and resistance to scratches and cracks ensure they remain a stunning focal point in any kitchen for years to come.
2. Exposed Brick or Stone – These materials bring a sense of history and character to a space, offering texture and depth with their natural beauty. As architectural elements, they add authenticity and a timeless quality that enriches any interior.
3. Subway Tile – This versatile staple has stood the test of time due to its variety of shapes, colors, and materials. Depending on the application, subway tile can serve as a neutral backdrop or a striking feature, making it adaptable to evolving styles without losing its classic appeal.
4. Sisal Wallpaper – Available in an array of weaves, colors, and textures, sisal wallpaper offers an elegant way to introduce warmth and depth to a room. It’s a sophisticated alternative to paint and a subtler choice compared to bold patterned wallpapers.
5. Slab Backsplashes– Increasingly popular, slab backsplashes offer a seamless and sophisticated look, eliminating the busyness of traditional tile patterns. Their clean, expansive appearance creates a neutral canvas, allowing for more flexibility with lighting, hardware, and other design elements.
While there are many ways to achieve a timeless aesthetic, these elements represent a few of the design choices I’ve worked with and observed firsthand. Each contributes to a space that feels curated, elegant, and enduring.
Before beginning any design project, I invest time in understanding my clients—their style, their needs, and their vision. This collaborative approach allows me to create interiors that not only reflect their personalities but also stand the test of time. More than ever, my clients in 2025 are prioritizing lasting quality and thoughtful design over passing fads, ensuring their homes remain beautiful and functional for years to come.
